Six days is the classic Svalbard summer week, long enough to put several days on the water, stand at a glacier front, read the wildlife coast and still walk the tundra, without packing the schedule tight.

You stay in Longyearbyen throughout and head out from town each day. Five nights give your guides real room to manoeuvre: when a morning comes in grey, they can move the plan and still catch the calm water later, because under the midnight sun the day never really ends.

Nothing here is artificial. Wildlife is wild and the weather decides the order of things, so the week flexes around what the Arctic is doing. What we promise is the time, the people who know the ground, and an itinerary built around your dates.

On this trip

What you’ll see and do

A modern expedition cruise ship among Arctic sea ice below snowy peaks

A full week of midnight sun

Six days under a sun that never sets means real margin. There is no evening to lose, so your guides can wait out fog and still fill the day, and you get long, gold-lit hours in town between trips, when the light keeps you up and you let it.

Small boat on a calm Svalbard fjord heading toward a glacier

Several days on the water

This is the heart of the week: more than one boat day running the coast and fjords toward glacier fronts and wildlife. Repeated water time is what a longer trip buys, so a poor morning rarely costs you the highlight.

Ice floes drifting in front of a glacier in summer

Glacier fronts and blue ice

Dedicated time at a calving glacier and among the floes that drift off it. You watch from the water as slabs break away, with a guide reading the front, the current and the ice between you and it.

Whale surfacing in clear Arctic water

Walrus, whales and the open tundra

The week makes room for both: wildlife days reading the haul-outs and feeding grounds from the boat, and a walking day across snow-free tundra with reindeer, Arctic plants and mining history. Wildlife is never promised, but the odds are at their summer best.

Good to know

Before you book

When does the Svalbard summer season run?

Roughly late May to mid-September. The midnight sun is up around the clock from about 20 April to 22 August, which is the prime window for boat trips, wildlife and snow-free walking.

Do I need a visa?

Svalbard itself is visa-free, but every route there goes through mainland Norway, which is in the Schengen area. Check whether your nationality needs a Schengen visa for the transit before you book.

What should I pack for summer?

Layers. Summer temperatures sit around 3 to 10 °C, so bring a warm windproof jacket, hat, gloves, sturdy walking shoes and sunglasses, as the light is constant. A camera with spare batteries is worth it.

Will I see polar bears?

A near-town summer week focuses on walrus, whales, seabirds and reindeer. Polar bears live here year-round but belong to the pack ice and the ship expeditions, not a land-and-fjord trip, so we never promise them. We tell you what's likely, not what sounds good.

How fit do I need to be?

Moderate. Boat days are easy; the tundra day involves some walking on uneven ground at a relaxed pace. Over a full week there's room to balance active days with rest. Tell us about any mobility needs and we'll shape the plan around them.
